Every year, countless athletes gather at Mountain Creek in order to compete at the Special Olympics. It's a time when individuals from diverse backgrounds come together to celebrate athleticism in the context of inclusion.

Recently, I had the privilege of volunteering at this remarkable event, and it was an amazing experience I would recommend to everyone.

Upon my arrival at Mountain Creek, I was struck by the diverse group of athletes, each with their unique abilities and stories. From experienced skiers to newcomers, the event truly showcased the inclusivity that lies at the heart of the Special Olympics. After the incredible staff went through a brief orientation with us, explaining what each volunteer had to do, we all took the gondola up the mountain and waited for the athletes to start racing. As the athletes started to come to the race start, ensuring they were focused, you could truly tell how much they valued this experience. As they started to ski down the course, I witnessed moments of sheer determination and courage. Athletes, facing various challenges, navigated the course with unwavering spirit and with the support they received from volunteers and spectators alike, everybody was having a great time. In a world often marked by division, events like these serve as reminders of our shared humanity. Regardless of our backgrounds or abilities, we can come together to celebrate each other's accomplishments and uplift each other, ensuring everybody has equal access to opportunities. Volunteering at the Special Olympics NJ Alpine Ski Racing Event was a memorable experience that reinforced the power of inclusion and community. It was not about the drama of competition but rather the simple joys of coming together and supporting one another.

I highly recommend volunteering for any event hosted by the Special Olympics! Check out their website and upcoming events below!
